2023 word?

Let’s talk about picking a word for the upcoming year. Several years back (maybe a decade?) I was introduced to the concept of an intention word for the year rather than setting resolutions.

It sounded great, but it was always so hard to pick just ONE word. Some years were a bit easier, most were difficult and rarely did I remember the word by July.

And yet I persevered. Picking a word, but eventually choosing verbs. They seemed more appropriate.

A couple weeks ago I started thinking of my “word” for 2023, and nothing was resonating with me.

Nothing!

Then I realized why, I need more action than a single word usually represents. I needed a phrase. It’s just how my mind works.

And instantly it came to me. “Use it or lose it”!

What does this mean? So many things. It can relate to health, diet choices, but mainly for me it’s a phrase to focus my world.

I’ve come to realize that I have supplies for crafts and arts I no longer have interest in……. “use it or lose it”.

I have clothes that either no longer fit, or no longer suit my lifestyle…….. “use it or lose it”.

I have kitchen appliances that I no longer cook with or in that style, multiple sets of dishes in storage, more decorative containers than I would have used even when I entertained regularly……. “use it or lose it“.

I have friendships that have languished due to inattention…….. “use it or lose it”!

Do you see where I’m heading this coming year? Yes, I probably could have found one word that covered all these options and aspects of my life, but this suits the overactive mind I possess.

So what do you do? Do you make resolutions? Or do you choose an intention word? Or are you like me and choose an action phrase? Or is your style to not put energy into any of the above and take each day as it comes?

No matter what your choice, I hope the New Year brings you the peace, love, joy, contentment, confidence, energy, or excitement you need!

Happy New Year!
