A few weeks back, I watched an episode of Fons and Porter Quilting that had a tutorial about the Jelly Roll Race Quilt and a variation that used squares between the strips
At the time I was looking for a fast, easy quilt pattern for lap throws, hoping to find something for our living room. After I watched the show, I thought “why not”. Then went to the quilt shop and purched two batik half roll jelly roll packs (the line didn’t have a 40 strip pack).
Finally this morning I decided to piece it while running a panto on the longarm. At first, as I was sewing the strips into one continuous strip, my thoughts were “one day–no way!”.
But it really does go quicker the farther you get into it.
And it can be pieced in one day, regardless of interruptions.
I like it. I’d like it even better if it was a bit larger so I’ll be going through my batik stash looking for some border material, but the main part is pieced…..in one day!
Of course, now my mind is wondering what would happen if I used a set number of colors, like 3 or 5? Maybe something really cool, maybe something ugly……time just might tell!
That’s one of the prettiest jellyroll race quilts I have seen Judy! Got a modern feel, but organic, too.
