On the Needles January 4, 2013

The first week in January!  It’s a New Year and time for lots of knitting and sewing and quilting!

This year I’ve committed myself to being more productive in my personal projects and so far it seems to be working.  No, this isn’t a resolution, as I started towards this in mid-December, but it is a lifestyle change.  One I hope will enhance the quality of life, after all that’s what it’s all about, right?

So what have I done lately?  Well, I finished my Zephyr Shawl:

And then the crazy knitting began!  I’ve commited to making one dishcloth (minimum) a month this year.  At the end of the year I hope to have a dozen, although as easy and quick as they are it may only take me a couple months to meet my dozen goal.  For my first one I chose an extremely bright variegated yarn by Lily Cotton.  Hey, it was a dreary day and I needed bright!

Then I continued on my latest pair of Plain Vanilla socks (i.e. no fancy work) using yarn from DEEP in my stash (Serenity Sock Yarn by Premier Yarns):

Of course I haven’t finished those yet, but had to start my first shawl for my 12 Shawls Forever group (on Ravelry)!  And at the same time work a mystery with the Designs by Joji group (again on Ravelry):

I went deep into my stash for this yarn as well, using Paton’s Kroy in Maroon and Red Heart Heart and Sole in Tequila Sunrise, then topped it off going not quite so deep for KnitPicks Stroll Fingering in Barn Red.

But, did I stop there!!! Oh NO!!!!! I am also committed to making Nantucket Red (in blue for me) with my YOSS group (on Ravelry) and completing this cardigan in the MONTH OF JANUARY!!!!! (yes, I am as crazy as my prior madhouse post would lead one to believe).

For this sweater I splurged and purchased yarn from KnitPicks, Gloss DK that’s a Merino/Silk blend.  It was a reasonable yarn for my first foray into knitting a patterned cardigan (not just an oversized cardigan) in more years than I want to remember.

So, I’ve jumped back in with both feet to the deep end of the kntting pool and am loving every minute of it.  Call me crazy or not, it just seems like the perfect thing to do on these long dark nights.

  1. Your shawl is absolutely beautiful! I love the colors and the pattern. Looks great with the dress, too. I’m going to have to look for that variegated cotton yarn for my next dishcloth. Be sure to post your progress on all these great projects.
