You win some, you lose some

You win some, you lose some, and that’s the way of life and creativity. Sometimes when you’re making something, your little, “what if” voice raises it’s head, and you veer away from your original vision. And you follow that voice, and then the next morning you look, and the parts don’t come together as a whole, and in essence you’ve lost that one.

Or have you? Although this sounds like a tale of woe, it’s actually a tale of surprise. I’ve been working on mounting some of my journal quilts lately. And the first two came out EXACTLY as I had envisioned, but the third. Well, I painted my background canvas and laid the piece down. And it was okay, that’s it, okay, nothing more, nothing less, just okay. So I thought about it and thought about it and came up with a plan that would enhance the piece.

And then that little voice rang out and said, well what if you do x to the background and then y to the edges. And I usually follow that little voice, and a lot of the time it works well. But this time, it failed. x and y made the piece disjointed. So sometime in the next day or so, I need to pull another canvas to paint another background for the original quilt and go back to my original plan.

But, in the meantime, all is not lost!!!! I’ve got a really cool collaged background started, and, of course, now my mind is starting to overflow with the possibilties for it.

You win some, you lose some………..or two for the price of one……….it’s all in the perspective!
